How can differences in sound with Pinion MGUs be explained?
There are various factors that affect an MGU's sound:
1. There can be very significant differences in sound depending on usage, the motor’s current power output and the selected gear. Here we explain how the motor sound relates to the selected gear.
2. Depending on the installation configuration, frame design and frame material, there may be greater or lesser differences in engine sound between different manufacturers, bike models or even individual bikes that appear identical.
3. There may be slight differences in noise levels between individual MGUs, even with the same mileage. This is not so much down to the mileage itself. In fact, the transmission component – which is always engaged, regardless of whether the motor is providing assistance or not – becomes quieter over time (the running-in period lasts up to 1,000 km). It is therefore primarily the motor and its reduction gear that can lead to differences in noise levels. These differences are generally quite minor, but cannot be completely ruled out.
