(applies to mechanical Pinion gearboxes)

Above all, we strongly recommend that you familiarize yourself with your Pinion bike and the basic assembly work on it before going on a long journey!

The gearbox and the entire bike should have undergone at least a certain running-in period and a professional initial inspection before starting your journey.

Please also note the information in this article: gearbox defect on a tour.

  1. Apart from the Pinion lockring tool (for fitting and dismounting the front pulley/chainring or spider of the gearbox), no special tools are required.
  2. All other screw connections on the gearbox are standard hexagon socket (‘Allen’) screws.
  3. A T30 Torx key is required to remove the gearbox from the frame and  to refit it.
  4. We use standard shift cables.
  5. If the Pinion bike is equipped with a toothed belt, it is advisable to pack a replacement belt of the appropriate length.
  6. If the gearbox is due for a routine oil change during the trip, an original oil change kit should be available.
